The gender gap is also widening at Canadian universities as a record number of 510,000 women are pursuing higher education, while 377,00 male students do the same. The percentage of female students is 57.5%, similar to the U.S. The study by Statistics Canada found that in the 2001-02 school year, both female and male enrollment increased by about 4%.
Women are still the minority in architecture and engineering in Canada, but in the last five years women increased their presence in those fields by 50%. The number of foreign students also increased by more than 60% in five years, but they are still only 6% of the student body.
