An new photo exhibit on the University of Mississippi campus captures the spirit of one of the more turbulent times in American history, giving students the chance to view pictures from the civil rights movement.
"The Nashville Sit-Ins" is on display at the Gamill Gallery inside Barnard Observatory through Oct. 31.
The never-before published photos were taken by Herald Lowe, photographer for The Nashville Tennessean during the civil rights movement from 1961 to 1964.
"The civil rights movement was one of the most important eras in the 20th century," Lowe said when donating his pictures to the Nashville Public Library.
"I am pleased that I was able to document this cause during my lifetime," Lowe said.
