* Allowing Jeremy Bloom to state his case (TSN, August 30) was one of the finest things the SPORTING NEWS could do. Bloom learned hard lessons from the NCAA but will come out a smarter (though more jaded) individual. The real shame of the whole Bloom controversy is that fans will miss out on watching an exciting player on Saturdays this fall.

* The NCAA acts like the school bully. It sits on its throne and makes decisions as if it only affects institutions instead of people. Its recent decisions on Jeremy Bloom and Mike Williams are only the latest examples of its narrow-mindedness.
