An American university has cancelled academic exchanges with the mainland following the detention of one its faculty members by state security agents for alleged spying.

The Sam Nunn School of International Affairs at the Georgia Institute of Technology will suspend its eight-week summer programme.

This takes US students to Fudan University in Shanghai, Renmin University in Beijing, and Northwest University in Xian to study Chinese political economics. The school said the programme was cancelled due to concerns for the safety of its staff.
