To mark the Self-Defense Forces' 50th anniversary, which occurred Wednesday, the Defense Agency and the Self-Defense Forces is pressing ahead with a review of the nation's defense policy, aiming to draft a new outline by end of the year.

The review mainly focuses on improving the ability of the SDF to respond to threats, such as terrorism or ballistic missiles fired from North Korea.
