(From Asia Pulse)
HANOI, Sept 8 Asia Pulse - Vietnam received more than 1.8 million foreign tourists in the first eight months of 2004, 27 per cent more than last year, said a report from the Vietnam National Administration for Tourism (VNAT).
Apart from the usual visitors from Europe and North America, the number of tourists from Japan, South Korea and several Southeast Asian countries also increased due to new visa exemptions, said the report.
During the first eight months of the year, 125,000 Korean tourists arrived in Vietnam, up 70 per cent compared to last year. Vietnam also hosted some 188,000 US tourists during the same period.
The VNAT attributed the tourist growth to this year's several large tourism events, such as the Tourism Year of Dien Bien the central provinces' World Heritage Road program and the fifth World Heritage recognition anniversary celebrations of Hoi An historic town.
