The nasty defenses and game-turning special teams. The exciting, entertaining Saturday nights in Blacksburg, Va. The disciplined, determined overachievers who helped elevate a dump of a one of college football's elite. And now it has come to this at Virginia Tech.

Coach Frank Beamer: "We played hard, and we played as well as we could play."

Tailback Justin Hamilton: "Nobody on this team is a quitter."

Defensive end Darryl Tapp: "Our effort was there; we can take a lot out of that."

Who could believe this is the legacy of those hell-bent, trend setting Virginia Tech teams of the past? Moral victories? You've got to be kidding.
