Beslan (North Ossetia), 6 September: The law-enforcement agencies have the operational situation in North Ossetia under control, a spokesman for the republic's interior ministry has told ITAR-TASS.

"Additional security measures were taken immediately after the seizure of the hostages, and they remain in place," he said. "Personnel are working 12-hour shifts and senior officials are on duty round the clock. Policing has been increased to prevent possible emergencies at public gatherings," the spokesman said.
