MALACCA is where everything began and a visit to the Malacca river front confirms this.
Malacca was a peaceful and important trading port for about a century after it was first opened by Parameswara, a Palembang prince who fled his country, first to Temasek (Singapore) and then Malacca.
He embraced Islam and took the name Sultan Iskandar Shah. The Malacca sultanate expanded to encompass a vast area covering parts of Sumatera and Indochina.
Traders came from as far as Arabia, India and China to trade with Southeast Asian islands.
