THE 1973-built, 5,370 gt freighter Silver Pearl has become the latest ship to fall foul of France's anti-marine pollution campaign, writes Andrew Spurrier in Paris.

The owners of the St Vincent and Grenadines-flagged vessel have been ordered to pay €250,000 ($300,000) bail to have it freed from detention off the southwestern French port of Bayonne.
