THE MILITARY said it would file a complaint against the separatist Moro Islamic Liberation Front for truce violations after a large group of MILF fighters gathered near a military detachment in Sultan Kudarat on Monday ahead of the proposed resumption of peace talks, a military official said yesterday.
Brig. Gen. Alexander Yano, who heads the government side in the joint panel monitoring the 13-month-old ceasefire, said about 200 MILF guerrillas had moved into the village of Camanga near the town of Isulan on Monday.
He said the show of force could have sparked a fire-fight with government troops had the MILF representatives in the coordinating committee on the cessation of hostilities (CCCH) not intervened and driven the rebels out of the area.
The military declined to say what triggered the sudden rebel movement, but it followed an armed clash last week near the town of Mamasapano.
The CCCH monitoring teams are meeting to try to defuse the situation ahead of planned peace talks in Malaysia, Yano told reporters.
