OPPOSITION Sen. Alfredo Lim yesterday announced that he was giving up his entire pork barrel of P200 million for next year as an act of "sacrifice."
"If I would want to be of help to the nation, I would rather do it wholeheartedly and unconditionally and that would be by giving up the pork barrel allotted to my office altogether instead of merely slashing it," Lim said.
His decision brought to four the number of senators who have given up their pork barrel, officially known as Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF). The others were Senate President Franklin Drilon and Senators Panfilo Lacson and Joker Arroyo.
Other senators are to meet in caucus in two weeks' time to come up with a common stand on what to do with the pork barrel in view of the deepening fiscal crisis.
President Macapagal-Arroyo had urged members of Congress to cut their pork barrel next year to help the government reduce the budget deficit.
