PRESIDENT Macapagal-Arroyo has appointed Bernardino Abes as new chair of the Government Service Insurance System's board of trustees.

Abes replaces Hermogenes Concepcion who retired in June.

A Palace statement said that the President was acting to "quickly fill the vacuum in the top leadership of the state insurance firm.''

The Malaca[currency]ang statement said Abes was a lawyer with "extensive experience in labor relations and administration, banking, the academe, insurance and pension fund management.''
