SOME northern Metro Manila mayors are having doubts about the capability of the proposed P5-billion Camanava (Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, Valenzuela) Flood Control Project that its designers say could help alleviate the perennial flooding problem in the area.
In northern Metro Manila, flood flows into the streets and houses, rain or shine, the moment the tide rises. Flooding is aggravated when heavy rains coincide with the rising tide.
After the mayors and other local officials grilled engineers from the Department of Public Works and Highways working on the project at the start of the Camanava Summit in Valenzuela City yesterday, Malabon-Navotas Rep. Ricky Sandoval said he would ask for a congressional inquiry to determine whether or not the project design could adequately address the problem.
The summit was the first in a series of discussions between local officials and officials from Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, Department of Public Works and Highways, Department of Environment and Natural Resources and other agencies.
It was aimed at finding integrated solutions to common problems confronting the four cities and one municipality in northern Metro Manila.
