By Warren Lee Maestro Chung Myung-whun will conduct Bizet's grand opera, "Carmen," with the Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra next week at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts.
The three performances will mark the first time he will conduct an opera staged by a Korean opera company.
"It feels like coming home. The first time I conducted an opera in Korea was when I rehearsed 'Salome' in 1994, but that was with the Bastille Opera. So I feel as if this is the first real time," Chung told the press.
The National Opera of Korea is staging this performance in collaboration with The Japan Opera Foundation and L'Association des Choregies d'Orange, the organizing committee of the famous annual festival in Orange, France. Chung conducted the same production of "Carmen" with the Radio France Philharmonic last month in Orange.
On stage, the National Opera Chorus will sing alongside members of the Fujiwara Opera Chorus of Japan.
