SEOUL, Sept 1 Asia Pulse - Manufacturing companies in South Korea think their business conditions will improve slightly in September from August thanks mainly to seasonal factors, a central bank survey showed Wednesday.
The business survey index, which measures manufacturers' business outlook, rose to 79 in September from 73 last month, according to the poll of 1,484 manufacturing firms.
A reading of less than 100 means that pessimists outnumber optimists.
The Bank of Korea said business sentiment bettered somewhat for next month because Chuseok, or full-moon festival and the country's biggest holiday, will fall on Sept. 28.
Consumers usually spend more during the Chuseok holidays, when tens of millions of people return to their hometowns and visit their ancestors' graves.
"The sentiment of export-oriented firms and conglomerates posted a slight improvement, but the confidence of smaller firms and companies targeting the domestic market slumped," the central bank said.
