Rhode Island President, Manuba Takasawa reports that in the fall and spring of each year, the Rhode Island MTA (RIMTA) has Rating Festivals for students. These noncompetitive events are for pianists of all levels. Students are adjudicated and given grades and commentary. Students also have given recitals at a Providence nursing home. These nursing home recitals are greatly appreciated by the nursing home residents and provide our students with more performing opportunities.
RIMTA has also had several exciting events for teachers. Takasawa, assistant professor of music at the University of Rhode Island, gave a lecture/recital of American piano repertoire, which included music of Bolcom, Griffes and Liebermann. Nelita True, ...
