It had taken the Kingdom 48 years to win two Olympic gold medals, a feat that was achieved in just six days by two Thai weightlifters in Athens.

Pawina Thongsuk won the gold in the 75kg division in a nail-biting competition on Friday night to join Udomporn Polsak, who took the ultimate prize in the 53kg class last Sunday, as the country's first two women Olympic champions.

Pawina lifted 272.5kg in total to match the effort by Russian teenager Natalia Zabolotnaia who earlier set a new world and Olympic record with that weight.
