Olympic recognition would give the sport of bowling a boost and some badly needed legitimacy. But don't expect it to happen any time soon.
According to guidelines set by the International Olympic Committee, a sport must be played on four continents and in 75 countries for it to be considered for certification as an Olympic event.
Bowling was included as an Olympic demonstration (non-medal) sport in Seoul, Korea, in 1988. But the Olympics didn't act positively in the years after 1988. And since then, bowling didn't help its integrity by fully legalizing lane blocking with the 3-unit lane dressing rule.
