When the Abu Ghraib prison scandal became big news in May, several prominent Democratic politicians claimed that the abuse inflicted by American soldiers was on the same scale as that dished out by Saddam Hussein and his thugs. Senator Ted Kennedy said on the Senate floor that Abu Ghraib was simply "under new management: U.S. management." In a speech for MoveOn.org, former Presidential nominee Al Gore labeled the prison abuse scandal a "Bush gulag."
The Department of Defense recently released a video found in postwar Iraq showing exactly what transpired when Saddam's henchmen were in charge. The video is not for the faint of heart, showing sickening and grotesque images of pure sadistic violence. These include a prisoner's tongue being torn out of his mouth, a man's hand being surgically severed from his arm, and, in the final scene, a beheading.
