You used to be able to take homeowners insurance for granted. No longer. According to a study by the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers Association of America, some 51 million households received price hikes from 2001 to 2003. Worse, an estimated 2.5 million families lost their coverage, and 27 percent of them have failed to final comparable policies.
