THE Prime Minister, Prof. Apolo Nsibambi, has rapped bride price and other "out-modelled and oppressive" cultural practices that suppress women, saying they should be abolished.

He, however, said the intention of bride price could be maintained just as a ritual, rather than as a way of extorting wealth from the family of the groom.

"What we could do is, instead of asking for 10 cows, we could ask for one shilling, so that the ritual is maintained," Nsibambi said.
