Maxine Kuo, a twenty-two-year-old violinist from New York City, took first place in the 2004 Kingsville International Young Performers Competitions. She will receive a $6,250 cash prize and will perform with the Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra during its 2004-2005 season. Kuo studies violin with Naoko Tanaka at The Juilliard School.
The second-place winner was pianist Marko Pavlovic, 21, from Miami Beach, Florida, who received $4,000 in total prizes and will perform with the Victoria, Texas, Symphony Orchestra during its 2004-2005 season. He studies with Kemal Gekic, who teaches at the Florida International University in Miami. Taking third place was cellist Arnold Choi, 18, from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, who received $2,100 in prizes. He is a student of John Kadz at the Mount Royal Conservatory in Calgary.
Receiving honorable mentions were clarinetist Georgiy Borisov, 18; marimbist Simon Boyar, 23; and pianist Jessica Zhu, 17.
