The early buzz after Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s crash at Infineon Raceway was that NASCAR would change the rules for what some in the garage sarcastically call the Company Car.

Yet when the subject came up during NASCAR's weekly competition meeting and when chairman Brian France addressed the situation, the response was firm: Despite the severity of Earnhardt's injuries, his second-place position in the points standings and his immense popularity, NASCAR wasn't about to change its policy--and it shouldn't, especially midway through a season--and allow sidelined drivers to collect points without even starting a race.
