PRAGUE, Aug 1 (CTK) - Most non-self-sufficient old people in the Czech Republic (80 percent) are cared for by their families, Iva Holmerova from the Czech Gerontological and Geriatrical Society told CTK.
The average time period of this care is from four to five years. It is most often women in the productive age who care for their old parents. According to certain statistics, in one-half of all cases, children care for their old parents, spouses care for each other in one-fifth of cases and in ten percent of cases it is distant relatives, Holmerova said.
