INDIA'S MINERAL INDUSTRY PERFORMS WELL: REPORT.
NEW DELHI, Aug 2 Asia Pulse - The index for mineral production (base year 1993-94_100) rose 6 per cent year-on-year in 2003-04 to 147, according to the annual report from the Department of Mines.
The report says that National Aluminium Company Ltd, a public sector unit (PSU) under the department, recorded net profit of Rs 7.356 billion (US$157 million) last fiscal. The company's mines, refinery, smelter and captive power plant have achieved the highest ever production since its inception.
After the first phase expansion Nalco becomes the largest alumina producer in Asia with the capacity of 1,575,000 tonnes per annum.
