SEOUL, Aug 2 Asia Pulse - South Korea must implement a range of measures to lure foreign tourists to the country's ancient city of Gyeongju, a government study said Saturday.
According to the study released by the Korea Culture and Tourism Policy Institute, the city, which was the capital of the Silla Dynasty (57 B.C.-935 A.D), is experiencing a decline in foreign tourist visits over the past 14 years.
There has been a big drop in the number of Japanese visitors, with a total of 260,000 in 2002 compared to 360,000 in 1989.
However, the number of Chinese tourists rose to 59,000 in 2002, compared to 45,000 in 1989.
