The Ministry of Transportation, as previously indicated, today filed an appeal of the recent arbitrator's ruling regarding 407 ETR's ability to increase tolls without prior government approval.
"We would be negligent in our duty to protect the public interest if we failed to fight for a better outcome on this important issue -- we have solid legal grounds for an appeal," said Transportation Minister Harinder Takhar. "With 94 years remaining in the contract negotiated by the previous government, we believe it is critical that this step be taken to protect Ontario consumers."
"One of the real challenges we face in our ongoing dispute with 407 ETR is the fact that we have had to fight this consortium for every piece of information we have asked them for since day one," said Takhar.
"Our number one focus continues to be on invoking our right to renegotiate the agreement," said Takhar.
