SEOUL, Aug 2 Asia Pulse - South Korea's overseas construction orders so far this year already exceeded last year's total, as local builders have won large-scale orders from the Middle East, the Ministry of Construction and Transportation said Monday.
Orders for the January-July period amounted to US$3.76 billion, compared with last year's total of $3.67 billion, according to the ministry.
The figure also compares with that for the same seven-month period last year of $2.21 billion, it said.
With the increase, the total foreign orders for 2004 are expected to surpass the government's target of $6 billion, it added.
By region, the Middle East accounted for the most with $2.12 billion, followed by Asia with $1.28 billion. Other regions made up $379 million of the total, it said.
