Budapest, August 1 (MTI) - Minister of Sport Ferenc Gyurcsany said political conflicts between him and Prime Minister Peter Medgyessy, which he said could stand in the way of the government's stable operation, were behind his decision to tender his resignation on Sunday.
"I feel that the prime minister's confidence in me is no longer as it was, which is why I made a gesture, offering him an open cheque which he can choose to use or throw away," Gyurcsany said on Hungarian Television's Telesport programme.
"Nothing is more important than the stable operation of the government, and if something stands in the way of this, one must accept short-term conflicts even if that means we part ways," he said.
The minister added his decision had nothing to do with the Ministry of Sports, the Olympics or sports management.
