SYDNEY, Aug 2 Asia Pulse - The Australian dollar opened stronger today, gaining strength after the United States government warned against terror attacks on major US financial institutions.
At 0700 AEST the local currency was trading at $US0.7034/39 compared with 0.6990/96 at yesterday's close.
Over the weekend, it reached a low of $US0.6985 and a high of 0.7063.
Macquarie Bank currency strategist Jo Masters said the Australian dollar push up through the $US0.7000 level late on Friday and this morning had been boosted after the US government warned today of possible terrorist attacks.
It warned against "iconic" financial institutions in New York City, Washington and Newark, New Jersey, saying intelligence over the weekend pointed to a car or truck bomb.
