ANGELES CITY-Angry at President Macapagal-Arroyo and the state-owned Clark Development Corp., former bar worker Regina Cadag hit the tip of her umbrella on the floor while she guarded her stall against members of a demolition crew on Fields Avenue here on Saturday.

"If (Ms Arroyo) promised 10 million jobs, why are we being forced to leave and our stalls are being demolished?" asked Cadag, 57, a native of Albay.

Cadag and 77 other former bar workers in the red light district of Fields here are among the 165 operators of stores at the perimeter of the nearby Bayanihan Park, just outside the main gate of Clark, a former American military air base.

"I would defend my stall with my life. This land is for Filipinos. We have a right to this place. Here, we managed to stand on our own. Where's the President's promise of 10 million jobs when we are being ejected?" Cadag said.
