SUBIC BAY FREEPORT-Three months after a United States vessel was fined for spilling oil in Subic Bay, another American vessel would be fined $10,000 (P559,500) for discharging human wastes into the waters here.
The ecology department of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority on Friday issued a notice of violation against USS Russell, a day after it received a hazard report from the SBMA port operations division indicating that the vessel discharged human wastes at Alava Pier here.
The $10,000 penalty was the second fine imposed against a US vessel in three months.
The United States has paid a $5,000 (P279,750) fine to the SBMA treasury department on April 27 after one of its warships, USS Coronado, spilled oil in Subic Bay.
Andrew Busk, the vessel's chief engineer, told SBMA officials that the spill was accidental.
