Waterways tax to remain flat

VENICE -- The four-county taxing district that oversees local waterways on Friday voted to keep its tax rate unchanged.

The West Coast Inland Navigation District, which meets every 10 to 12 weeks, will keep its millage rate at .04 mills -- or $4 per $100,000 of taxable value.

The district can still decide to lower the rate, but cannot raise it.

The WCIND also voted to match the state with $75,000 for a study of Snake Island's erosion, which is contributing to the filling in of a channel at the entrance to the Venice inlet.
