INTERNATIONAL Shipholding Corporation had earnings of $1.8m in the second quarter of the year, taking the total for the first six months to $4.7m, writes John Mc-Laughlin in New York.
Both totals were down on the same periods last year, when the company reported earnings of $2.5m and $5.5m respectively, though in 2003 the New Orleans company also benefited from a $1.3m tax gain from early retirement of debt. Company executives said the latest figures reflected an improved performance from the company's foreign-flag LASH liner service due to increased volumes as well as higher earnings from its 50% investment in two capesize bulkers.
