PORT CHARLOTTE -- Good job, with room for improvement -- that's the message the Charlotte County School Board gave to Superintendent David Gayler in a preliminary evaluation Thursday.

Gayler, who recently completed his second year with the district, was judged on the priorities he set last year, which included that all schools receive A's on the state report card, that he would develop a strategic plan that guides the district, and that he would finish curriculum plans for expanded career and technical education.

On a scale of 1 to 9, with 9 being outstanding, Gayler earned an overall rating of 7.5. …
