VOLLEYBALL China defends Asian championship HO CHI MINH CITY, Viet Nam: China defended its title at the 12th Asian women's volleyball championship, beating Japan 25-21, 25-23, 25-15 in the final on Friday.

The victory gave China an automatic berth in November's World Cup in Japan.

"We did well at serving, attacking and blocking, but our defence was just so-so," said China coach Chen Zhonghe. "Our players played at a high level game in the first two sets, but they still made some mistakes." Japan head coach Shoichi Yanagimoto said China deserved the crown.
