Feb. 17--Academy Sports & Outdoors will open its Waco store in late July, barring any construction delays.
That was the official word Thursday from Michelle McKinney, executive vice president for operations.
Work has begun on converting a portion of the old Kmart building at Franklin Avenue and New Road into a 77,169-square-foot Academy.
Local fans of the chain, based in Katy, Texas, are already getting excited.
