After reading the letters written by Mr. Hortin and Mr. Marks (October 2005) and the subsequent letter from Mr. White (November 2005) concerning Delta Airlines and its SkyTeam partners, I have to concur, as well, that the recognition factor by Delta's code-share members is just not acceptable. Both my wife and I are Platinum Medallions with Delta and sometimes are bewildered by some of the actions taken by their code-share operatives:
1. We had just returned from a round-trip Boston-Budapest, with the transatlantic portion flown by CSA (Czech Airlines), and although we had assigned seats ahead of time together, we were given seats that were in the same row, but separated, at the gate. This also happened later in the day on the leg from Prague to Budapest;
2. We arrived at JFK four hours before the flight to Prague and had plenty of time to ask gate personnel if there were any seats available in either the bulkhead or exit row. But we were told there was nothing assignable since the seats were occupied.
We boarded early and then watched to see that three seats were open in the bulkhead row and at least two seats in the exit row. At 6'4" and 220 pounds, I need as much legroom as I can obtain. As soon as the door closed, three teenagers jumped into the bulkhead row. I asked the flight attendant if we could take the two seats in the exit row and was promptly told I had to sit where ...
