Italy's health minister said Tuesday that the H5 bird flu subtype has been detected in two more dead swans in southern Italy, but added it was too early to know whether it was the deadly H5N1 strain that was discovered in six wild birds over the weekend.
Health Minister Francesco Storace said the two possible cases were in the Puglia region in the heel of Italy where some of the confirmed bird flu cases were found, and further tests were being done.
