The government could hold off on the new subsoil bill for up to three years, introducing instead amendments to current legislation, a senior natural resources official said Monday. The amendments will address the most pressing issues stalling geological exploration and the development of new deposits.

"I envisage amendments to the current legislation to act as an interim measure," Viktor Orlov, head of the Federation Council's committee on natural resources and environmental protection, said Monday at a CIS metals summit in Moscow.
