MANATEE COUNTY -- Teachers in Manatee schools may find themselves working side by side in doubled up classrooms with twice as many students next year. Some may even end up teaching mixed classes of students in different grades.
It's just the latest sign of the strain that growth and a state law requiring lower class sizes is putting on schools here.
And now, a more than $10 million spike in the cost to add more classroom space by building wings is forcing administrators to rethink that plan.
"We're still trying to catch our breath," said Superintendent Roger Dearing.
