Who? Gwyneth Paltrow. What? The January cover of Allure, shot by Michael Thompson. When? September 7. Where? At Lux Studio in New York City, her hometown. Why? Paltrow has generated award buzz for her role in Proof opposite Anthony Hopkins, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Hope Davis. She's With the Band: Paltrow arrived wearing a pink cashmere vest by Stella McCartney, Blue Cult jeans, and flat sandals. With her hair still wet and her face free of makeup, she waved good morning to the crew and made herself a cup of tea. "I'm exhausted," she said. The night before she had been at a Coldplay show, cheering on her husband, Chris Martin. Mother Nature: While Serge Normant styled her hair, Paltrow got a phone call from her longtime friend Julia Van Nice, who was visiting from Chicago with her newborn son. "Stop by for lunch," Paltrow said. "But you have to bring the baby, or you're not allowed to come." When they arrived, the actress rushed to the stroller. "Oh, you're beautiful!" she gushed, lifting the baby into her arms. Working Lunch: Paltrow took a lunch break for a vegetable sandwich, salad, and a slice of pecan pie. She talked with Jenny Turner, her partner in her production company, Go-Go Pictures. "Our first film, Dealbreaker [directed by Mary Wigmore and Paltrow], was all about the pitfalls of dating," Turner said. "And Gwyneth and I could talk about that topic for days."
