A Jackson County jury found in favor of an employee of Boys & Girls Club of Kansas City, who alleged she was fired for objecting to comments she said the club's president made about not wanting to hire a white woman and a Hispanic man as a unit director.
According to the her attorneys, plaintiff Tameka Bryant began working for the Boys & Girls Club of Kansas City as the vice president of operations in January 2002. Through December 2003 she received excellent performance reviews, bonuses and merit pay from her supervisor, President David Smith.
At the time, the club employed African-American unit directors at their locations. Both Smith and Bryant are African-American.
