Perhaps the first question that should be asked is this: how could a company with the name "Custer Battles" win a contract to provide security in a war zone, much less be given a role in training Iraq's military and security forces?

Custer Battles takes its morale-sapping name from its co-founders, former Army officers Scott Custer and Michael Battles.
