Beaumont, Texas, Mayor pro tern Audwin Samuel was assaulted in the driveway of his home on November 3.

Samuel was on his way home from his law office late at night when he noticed that he was being followed by men in two cars. He pulled into his driveway and got out of his car. As he did, four men got out of the cars that trailed him. The men approached Samuel. One man said to Samuel, "I want to talk to you," reported the Beaumont Enterprise. Samuel leapt back into his cal', tried to draw help by honking his car horn, and retrieved a pistol.
