The juvenile obsession with stockpiling overpriced wing players has impelled the Knicks to acquire Jalen Rose, which means their stable of studs at that position now includes Quentin Richardson, Jamal Crawford, the injured Penny Hardaway and probably a few others whose names I can't recall.

But those four will make $45 million this year--a cap unto itself, or maybe just a tattered fedora--and the only thing they have in common is team president Isiah Thomas' , certainty at the time of every acquisition that each would help the ship from hitting the rocks. Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. And wrong.
