Local stars did well in the National Championships in Manchester.

Olympic hopefuls Nathan Robertson and Gail Emms retained the Mixed Doubles crown when they beat second seeds Anthony Clark (Notts) and Donna Kellogg (Derby) 15-2 15-3 in 37 minutes. Robertson said: "I'm pretty happy with our performance. I was expecting a tougher game so I was surprised at the score." Emms won her 5th and Kellogg her 4th doubles title when 2004 champions Ella Tripp (Cheshire) and Joanne Nicholas (Lancs) were forced to give them a walkover. Tripp was unwell and not fit to play.
