The job description for an offensive lineman is pretty simple: Protect the quarterback, and open holes for the running back. As such, you wouldn't think one lineman could influence a game all that much. But left tackle Walter Jones can--so much so that the Seahawks could win the Super Bowl because of him.

I know, that concept is a bit of a reach. An offensive lineman never even touches the ball, for cryin' out loud. But Jones does things I've never seen any other lineman do, and his impact is amazing.

He eliminates at least one pass rusher on virtually every play. Panthers end Mike Rucker is a great player, but he was a nonfactor in the NFC championship game. That left the Panthers playing with 10 men. Jones sometimes even knocks two or three guys out of a play.

There was a play in that game in which Jones drove Rucker 16 yards downfield, picked up Julius Peppers and Will Witherspoon--two tremendous athletes--along the way and deposited Rucker on his back. You just don't find offensive linemen with the speed and athletic ability to stay with a block that long. Other than Jones, that is.
