Boots retail chemists raise pre-tax by 33pc to 16m.

PHARMACY chain Boots saw its pre-tax profits from its retail chemists in Ireland surge by 33pc to 16m last year, while the Boots distribution business here saw its profits rise 23pc to 3m last year.

Accounts just filed for Boots Retail (Ireland) show it boosted its pre-tax profits to 16m for the year to March 2005. This was up from 12m the previous year.

The after-tax profit for 2005 came in at 13m, a 30pc rise. This performance helped the British chemist chain to build up its retained profits to 126m. This was up from 113m in the previous year.
